Albert H. Reis

November 26, 1922 - September 26, 2009
Albert H. Reis, 86, of Burlington, Iowa, died at 6:00 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2009, at Great River Hospice House after a long and courageous battle with Leukemia.
Born November 26, 1922 in Consul, Iowa, he was the son of Henry Phillip and Minnie Post Reis. He married Jane Maurine Coady on June 14, 1947at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia, IA.
Mr. Reis retired from the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant as a foreman after 33 years of employment. Prior to that, he was employed as an Operating Engineer on various construction sites.
He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II serving in the European theatre.
He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church (now SS Mary & Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington) for over 60 years, a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, International Union of Operating Engineers, and a member of the St. Patrick’s Bridge Club.
He enjoyed his family, traveling, auctions, music, the theatre, playing bridge with friends, any outdoor activity and a good piece of pie.
Survivors include his wife Jane; one daughter, Kay (Tom Mahony)Cody of Boulder, Colorado; one son, Terry (Martha Colgan-Reis) Reis of Burlington; one grandson, Conor Taniguchi of Los Angeles; one granddaughter, Kara Taniguchi of Denver; two step-grandsons, Matt Mahony of San Francisco and T.J. Mahony of Boston; one nephew, Richard Boland of Oskaloosa; one niece, Linda Reid of Peoria; and several great nephews and great nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one brother and one nephew.
Friends may call from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 9th in Lunning Chapel. There will be a Christian Wake service at 6:30 p.m. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 10th , at SS Mary & Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington. The Very Rev. David Steinle will be the celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Full military honors will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard following mass.
A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice House.
