Walter Bert Orton
July 28, 1938 - October 4, 2009

Walter Bert Orton, 71, of Burlington, died at 1:15 AM Sunday, October 4, 2009, at his residence.

Born July 28, 1938 in Ft. Madison he was the son of Walter and Florence Orton. In July 25, 1957 he married Patricia "Trish" Brightwell in West Burlington at St. Paul's United Church of Christ.

Mr. Orton worked as a landscaper California, a route driver and did Machine Maintence for Automatic Vending Company for 25 years, and the past 5years for Winegard Company until he became ill this past May. He was in the United States Marine Corps excelling in the rifle range, served in Okinawa retiring as a Lance Cpl.

Walter attended the 12th grade and landscaping school through the United States Marine Corps.

He did coin collecting and was a member of the Burlington Coin Club, American Legion Post 52, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 579, and enjoyed daily weight lifting and exercising. Walter was a member of St. Paul's united Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife; twin son and daughter, Harry Parkin of San Diego, CA and Mary Ann (Rick) Murillo of Chula Vista, CA; three grandchildren; John David Parkin, Jessica Michelle and Angelica Marie Murillo; two brothers, Bill (Pat) Orton of Burlington and Glenn (Debra) Orton of Holly Hill, South Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 half brothers and one half sister.

Friends may call Tuesday noon until 8PM where the family will receive friends 6 until 8 PM in Lunning Chapel.

The funeral service for Mr. Walter Bert Orton will be 1:30 PM Wednesday, October 7th at Lunning Chapel, with Pastor Dean Moberg officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, West Burlington, with Military Rites by the Burlington Area Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers memorials have been established for St. Paul's United Church of Christ and the family has been established.

"I first met Walt in the molding department at Winegard. Lets just say he would always have a joke to tell or a story that would just make me laugh. If I was in a harsh mood he would always say something to make me laugh which then it would make me in a better mood. I would think of the joke or story through out the day and would still be laughing. God bless. Trish you are and always will be in my prayers. My heart goes out to you and your family. Walt I will miss seeing you at hyvee as well. R.I.P. my dear friend. "
