Lois Ann Swisher
Lois Ann Swisher, 78, of Middletown died at 11:15 a.m. on Monday, October 5, 2009 at Great River Hospice House.
Born August 28, 1931 in David City, Nebraska, she was the daughter of Clarence A. and Freida Wieckhorst Crandell. She married George Duane Brokens and they later divorced. On May 20, 1978 she married John “Jack” Swisher in West Burlington.
Mrs. Swisher was an 1949 graduate of David City High School in David City, Nebraska. She worked at I.A.A.P as an inspector and also worked at Antennacraft, and was a bartender and hostess.
Mrs. Swisher loved to sew, crochet, embroidery, woodworking, garage sales and auctions.
Survivors include her husband, John “Jack” Swisher of Middletown; one daughter, Susan (Gary) Barnes of Amarillo, Texas; one son, Martin (Cindy) Brokens of Amarillo, Texas; two step-sons, Tom (Sheena) Swisher of Belmond, Iowa and Terry (Debbie) Swisher of St. Joseph, Illinois; two step-daughters, Lynn (Byron) Perron of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and Lora (Kevin) Cooper of Omaha, Nebraska; 12 step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; one brother Bob (Gail) Crandell of Minnesota; one sister-in-law, Cheryl Crandell of South Sioux City, Nebraska and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Martin.
Friends may call after noon on Thursday, October 8th in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
The funeral service for Mrs. Swisher will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 9th in Lunning Chapel. The Reverend Dean Graber will officiate. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice and Des Moines County Humane Society.
