Roger L. Smith, 73, of Webster City, died Sunday,
January 10, 2010 at Mary Greeley Medical Center at
Ames. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m.
Thursday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Revs.
Mike Kroona and Tony Ede officiating. Burial will
be in the Graceland Cemetery. Graveside military
rites will be conducted by American Legion Post
# 191. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and
Cremation Center from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Wednesday and at the church prior to the service.
Roger Lee Smith, son of Stewart and Lucille
Headley Smith, was born December 25, 1936 near
Ada, Minnesota. He attended school at Hillsboro,
North Dakota, then moved to Jewell, Iowa where
he lived with his uncle and aunt, Kenneth and Vera
Headley and graduated from Jewell high school
with the class of 1956. He served in the United
States Army from January 1960 to March 1962
with the 545 Ordinance Company in Germany. On
November 29, 1962, he married Elizabeth Ann
Reisner at Trinity Lutheran Church in Webster City.
He served as Hamilton County Deputy Sheriff, was
a self employed truck driver and later worked at the
United Cooperative at Webster City.
Roger is survived by his wife, Ann; brothers and
sisters-in-law, Rodney and Nancy Smith of Eagan,
MN; Richard and Vivian Smith of White Bear Lake,
MN; sister, Shila Schumacher of Scottsdale, AZ;
special cousins, Monte and Sue Headley; Mike and
Marsha Headley; aunt, Jennie Headley; 7 nieces and
nephews.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church,
Webster City Moose Family Center #735 and was a
49 year member of the BPO Elks Lodge of Webster
City and Ames, a former Masonic member and a
former member of Za-Ga-Zig Shrine of Des Moines.
In retirement, Roger enjoyed traveling, playing cards
and working in his garden. He will be greatly
missed by his family and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his mother and
brother, Russell Smith.
