Darlene Branchfield

Mrs. Darlene Branchfield, 77, of Mediapolis, died at 6:50 a.m. Sunday, February 28, 2010, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born July 20, 1933 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Nels and Bertha Brown Oldham.

Mrs. Branchfield was a waitress at the Arion, a bartender at Hallars Tap and a cook at Apron Strings, a restaurant in Mediapolis, before retiring in 2000. She was of the Lutheran faith and enjoyed playing cards, especially Skip-Bo.

Survivors include her companion of over 30 years, Cliff "Mac" McFarland of Mediapolis; one daughter, Sherry McCannon of West Burlington; three sons, Russ Kindig and Mike Kindig, both of Burlington and Mark Branchfield of Mediapolis; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and three sisters, Doris Smith and Linda Boomer, both of California and Charlotte Woodyard of Burlington.

Her parents, two sisters, and one brother preceded her in death.

The funeral service for Mrs. Branchfield will be 2:00 p.m. today in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Jerleen Schlesser will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call after noon today in Lunning Chapel and the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the time of service.

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.
