Verna L. Rowe

May 24, 1908 - March 2, 2010
Verna L. Rowe, 101, of Webster City, died Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Crestview Senior Living in Webster City. A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Faith United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Willer officiating. Burial will follow in the Mackey Cemetery south east of Stanhope. Visitation will also be held on Saturday at the church from 12:00 p.m. prior to the service. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center.
Verna L. Johnson, daughter of August and Nellie Knight Johnson was born on May 24, 1908 in Boone County, Iowa. Following graduation from Story City High School, she taught country school for two years. On March 30, 1929, she married Roy M. Grubbe. The couple farmed near Story City for several years before moving to Des Moines, Marshalltown and in 1939, to Webster City. Mr. Grubbe died on November 22, 1952. On February 11, 1954, Verna married Roscoe Rowe in Fort Dodge. The couple farmed north of Webster City until retiring in 1964 and moving into Webster City. Verna had been involved in ceramic work for over 27 years. Mr. Rowe died on March 15, 1992. She had been residing at Crestview Senior Living since July of 2007.
Verna is survived by her two sons and daughter-in-law, Virgil and Marilyn Grubbe of Webster City, Kenneth Grubbe of Omaha, NE; 6 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren; one sister, several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her 2 step children, Pat (Dale) Wagner, Robert Rowe; 10 step grandchildren, 17 step great grandchildren, and 6 step great great grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, Verna was preceded in death by her daughter, Arlene Berven; daughter-in-law, Ruth Grubbe; and granddaughter, Ann Berven Tschampel.

My dear Mother, Marguerite Wright spent many hours with Ms. Verna doing ceramics and china painting. I treasure many of those pieces today as Mom died in 1978. I am sure she was delighted to welcome Ms. Verna to heaven.

Some of my earliest childhood memories involve visiting Verna on the farm. Many hours were spent playing under the trees with Verna and Roscoe prividing cookies and lemonade and lots of fun. Verna was a dear friend to many including my mother. She will be greatly missed.
