Edward "Ed" John Guerin

Mr. Edward “Ed” John Guerin, 92, of Burlington, died at 11:40 a.m. Friday, March 5, 2010, at Great River Medical Center’s Klein Center.

Born February 5, 1918 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he was the son of Michael David and Elizabeth Curran Guerin. On June 4, 1955 he married Margaret Elizabeth Lamb in Madison, Wisconsin. She preceded him in death on January 1, 2006.

Mr. Guerin was an Army veteran of World War II serving with the 2nd Armored Division with rank of Master Sergeant. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

He worked for Pabst Brewing Co. for 30 years, retiring in 1980. After retiring, he purchased the Don Pease Co. in 1980 and moved to Burlington in 1981. He was a member of SS John and Paul Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and American Legion.

Survivors include two sons, L. James Guerin of Omaha, Nebraska and Robert M. Guerin of San Rafael, California; two daughters, Mary M. Foote of Stilwell, Kansas and Gayle M. Hudson of Forest Park, Illinois; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, 4 brothers and one sister.

Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 8th in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Guerin will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 9th in St. Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Patrick Hilgendorf will be the celebrant. The Des Moines County Resurrection Choir will provide the music. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for SS John and Paul Catholic Church, Great River Medical Center’s Klein Center and the Alzheimer’s Association.
