Dolores Simon

June 27, 1915 - July 3, 2010
Dolores Simon, 95, of Webster City, died Saturday,
July 3, 2010 at the Hamilton Hospital. A Funeral Mass
will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas
Aquinas Catholic Church, with Rev. Scott Boone
presiding. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation
Center from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday. Recitation
of the rosary will be at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday with a
scripture service to follow at 7:00 p.m.
Dolores Barbara Byer, daughter of Cornelius and
Otilda Seitz Byer, was born June 27, 1915 at Cashton,
WI. She attended Winona State Teachers College.
On July 24, 1936, she married Bernard Nicholas Simon
at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winona, MN. The
couple resided at Owatonna, MN, then moved to Boone,
IA. In 1943, they moved to Webster City. Returning to
Owatonna in 1959, where they owned and operated a grocery
store. They returned to Webster City in 1963. She was
employed as a retail clerk for J.C. Penney for 26 years
in Webster City. Mrs. Simon resided at Crestview
Apartments for 3 years following her husband’s death
on June 2nd of 2007.
Mrs. Simon is survived by sons and daughter-in-law,
Rod Simon of Boise, SD; Don Simon and fiancé, Phylis Burns of
Harriman, TN; Jon and Bev Simon of Owatonna, MN;
daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Nevin Baker of
St. Augustine, FL; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren;
sister, Cleo Hamerski of Silver Springs, MD; and several
nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death
by her parents; daughter-in-law, Ginny Simon; grandson,
Scott Michael Baker; sisters, Madge Voelker and Milly Wieczorek.
She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church;
a 65 year member of Catholic Daughters, where she had served as
Grand Regent; charter member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority; a 60
year member of the Webster City Country Club Ladies Golf
Association and publicity chair for 35 years; past president of
the Womens Club; a former member of the church choir and the
Webster City Community Chorus; a teachers aid at St, Thomas School
for 11 years; belonged to a rummy club, several bridge clubs;
was an avid golfer, loved to play cards, sing and go dancing.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Thomas
Aquinas School.
