Barbara Jean Brown

November 17, 1934 - July 24, 2010
Barbara Jean Brown, 75, of Oquawka, Illinois died Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born November 17, 1934 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Edward C. and Catherine Anna Cronk Bliss. On May 5, 1956 she married Marvin L. Brown in Burlington.

Mrs. Brown was a 1952 graduate of Burlington High School. While in high school Barbara was a telephone operator. She was a homemaker and of the protestant faith. She was a Girl Scout leader for ten years and was one of the original members of the Des Moines County Riding Club. She enjoyed gardening and had a love for horses.

Survivors include her husband, Marvin Brown of Oquawka; one brother, Donald Bliss of Burlington and one sister, Janet Messer of Holts Summit, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Carol Sickels.

The memorial service for Mrs. Brown will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 27th in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. David Plooster will officiate. Inurnment will follow in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the time of service on Tuesday.

According to Mrs. Brown wishes, her body has been cremated.

A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.

So sorry to hear of Barb's passing. She was my girl scout leader as well as a friend. I used to go to the house on Prairie Grove Road to ride horses with her. I always enjoyed the time I spent with her.
