March 19, 1921 - February 26, 2008
BRITT – Caroline E. Mayland, 86, of Britt died Tuesday (February 26, 2008) at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 P.M., Friday at First Lutheran Church in Britt with Rev. Lee Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Thursday at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Caroline Ella Mayland, the daughter of Willie and Maude (Hennings) Meyer, was born March 18, 1921 at Titonka. She attended country school near Wesley. On December 18, 1941 she was married to Walbert B. Mayland at Grant City, MO. They lived in the Klemme and Britt area until 1968 when they moved into Britt. Caroline was employed at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt as a nurse’s aide for sixteen years. She enjoyed her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sewing, reading and flowers. Caroline also enjoyed making quilts for World Relief and helping the Britt American Legion Auxiliary sell poppies.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Britt, FLCW – Mary Circle and the Britt American Legion Auxiliary.

Caroline is survived by her husband of 66 years, Walbert B. Mayland , Sr. of Britt; children, June (Eldon) Asche of Kanawha, Walbert W. (Gloria) Mayland, Jr. of Britt and Stanley Mayland of Hamond, LA; son-in-law, Bob Shannon of Alta; 13 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Marie(Harry) Volt of Boise, ID and Kathryn Mabry of California; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Esther Shannon; two infant daughters, Caroline Ella and Mary Ella Mayland; a son-in-law, George Earles; two brothers, August and Frank Meyer; and a sister, Ella Mae Martin.
