BRITT — Edward G. Riekena, 89, of Britt, formerly of Forest City died Sunday (December 9, 2007) at the Westview Care Center in Britt.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 P.M., Friday, December 14th at Forest Evangelical Lutheran Church in Forest City with Rev. Wayne Halvorson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt is in charge of arrangements.
Edward G. Riekena, the son of Gretus and Alice (Geerdes) Riekena, was born March 16, 1918 at Woden. He attended school at Woden. Edward served his country from 1941 to 1946 in the U.S. Navy during WW II. On November 25, 1948 he married Beulah Thompson at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They made their home in Forest City where they raised their daughter, Beth. Ed had worked as a deputy sheriff in Winnebago County for 14 years and also at Winnebago Industries in Forest City for 13 years. He enjoyed his family and horseback riding.
He was a member of Forest Evangelical Lutheran Church in Forest City and served on the commission of Veterans Affairs for 39 years.
He is survived and his daughter, Beth Kasinkas, and her husband, Mike of Plymouth, MN; grandchildren, Lisa, Tessa, and Michael Edward; and a brother, George(Shorty) Riekena.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah; his parents; and four siblings, Ben, Henry, Warren, Evelyn (Mrs. OW Foster).
