Robert "Bob" Therkelsen

Robert "Bob" Therkelsen
March 10, 1920 - October 6, 2008

Robert "Bob" Therkelsen was born in Jeffers, Minnesota on March 10, 1920, to the late Frank and Luella (Wilson) Therkelsen. He received his education in the Jeffers Public Schools and then attended the Dunwoody Institute.

On December 31, 1939, Bob was united in marriage to Josephine A. Anderson in Storden, Minnesota. From that time on they lived in Jeffers and raised their family of three children. In 1943, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy and was a Machinist Mate in the South Pacific. On June 20, 1945, he was honorably discharged. He then returned to Jeffers where he owned and operated his own car body shop. In 1951, Bob and Josephine moved to the farm where Bob did custom bailing and crop spraying besides farming. In later years, Bob and Josephine traveled to Arizona where they enjoyed many hours of warm weather. In 1994, Bob and Josephine moved into Windom. On April 25, 1997, Josephine passed away suddenly. After his death, Bob continued to live in Windom and became good friends with Ethel Lundblad and they traveled together to Arizona for the winter months. In August of this year, Bob became a resident of the Sogge Good Samaritan Society in Windom and passed away peacefully there on Monday afternoon, October 6, 2008 at the wonderful age of 88.

Bob was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post and the Westbrook VFW Post #3844. Bob's enjoyments in life included flying his airplane and fishing.

Bob's grateful family includes two daughters, Carol McNulty of Payson, AZ; Janet Niehaus and her husband, Erwin of Grove City; one son, Stuart Therkelsen and his wife, Darlene of Jeffers; six granddaughters, Aurien and Tim Preiss; Sandee and Rodney Grogg; Lou Ann and Greg Combs; Penny and Boyce Clock; Betsy and Jeff Ammermann; Jennifer and Robb Ammermann; 12 great-grandchildren, Matthew, Allison, Andrew, Samuel, Amanda, Morgan, Charlotte, Mackenzie, Ben, George, Trevor, and Nathan; and one sister, Marilyn Pittman of Buffalo and special friend, Ethel Lundblad of Windom.

Bob is preceded in death his parents; wife, Josephine Therkelsen; and one granddaughter, Jacqueline Minutolo.
