Duane "Hondo" Harms

GARNER - Duane D. "Hondo" Harms, 58, of Garner died Friday (October 24, 2008) at his home south of Garner.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner with Rev. David Wagner officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Concord Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M., Monday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Duane Dean Harms, the son of Reno and Ione (Tanner) Harms, was born May 27, 1950, at Forest City. He attended school at Garner. Duane lived south of Garner and worked various jobs in the area. He raised pigeons, chickens and ducks at his home for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, cooking and, in his younger years, riding motorcycles. Hondo ran for Mayor of Garner in the 1990's.

Duane is survived by his two daughters, Amanda (Wade) Anderson of Lake Mills and their two daughters, Morgan and Alexis, and Sara (Bob) Weber of Austin, MN, and their four children, Cole, Amanda, Abbey and Cory; four brothers, Ernie Harms of Garner, Howard (Sharon) Harms of Britt, Harley (Julie) Harms of Garner and George Harms of New Hampton; a sister, June Harms of Albert Lea, MN; a sister-in-law, Janine Harms; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Frances Benesh and Grace Monson; and brother, August Harms.

"hondo will be so missed i will miss his smile his jokes and most of him he was such a great person i always had a great vist with him when i saw him i am the daughter of delores johnson (tanner) duane mom was my moms sister i can remember the time he cut his own cast off his foot that was so crazy but he done it anyways will just remember that god will be with his daughters and family during this time of sorrow thank god for that love you all pam johnson "
