Eldon "Pinky" Pinkerton was born on October 22, 1926 in Denver, Missouri to Jay and Fay (Packer) Pinkerton. He attended country school in Worth, Missouri through the 6th grade.
On November 6, 1944, Eldon was united in marriage to June Woods. This marriage was blessed with two children, Judy and Sharon. They were married for 7 years and the marriage was later dissolved. Eldon enlisted in the Army and served for four years in the Philippines and the start of the Korean War before being honorably discharged. After the service, Eldon was a farmhand in Worth County, Missouri.
On September 23, 1952, Eldon was united in marriage to Betty Fienhage in Bedford, Iowa. They were married for 47 years and this marriage was blessed with four children, Kathy, Debbie, Greg, and Jeff. Eldon worked for Hy-Vee for over 30 years where he was a manager and served on the Hy-Vee Board of Directors. In 1978, he retired from Hy-Vee and then worked at various jobs, including Jack & Jill and SuperValu until his final retirement in 1990. He enjoyed traveling and spending time at their lake home during his retirement. Betty passed away on November 24, 1999.
Eldon was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Church in Windom and the American Legion Post 206 in Windom. His enjoyments in life included hunting, fishing, outdoors, spending time at the lake home, winning at cards, traveling, cooking, and enjoying his long retirement. Eldon had a very strong work ethic and loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Eldon passed away on November 1, 2008 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 82.
He is survived by his children, Judy Picker of Glenwood, IA, Sharon Bowen and her husband, Larry, of Mt. Ayr, IA, Kathy Gabbert and her husband, Dennis, of Parnell, MO, Debbie Rezac and her husband, Doug, of Windom, Greg Pinkerton and his wife, Carol, of Iron River, WI, Jeff Pinkerton and his wife, Lisa, of Spring Park; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one brother, Ralph Pinkerton and his wife, Maryanna, of Salem, OR; a very special friend, LaVonne Donahue; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Eldon is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Pinkerton; infant sister, Bonnie Jean; and three brothers, Rex, Max, and Bobby Jay Pinkerton.
