William "Bill" Hanish

William "Bill" Hanish
October 16, 1924 - December 6, 2008

William "Bill" Adolph Hanish was born on October 16, 1924, at his home near Sprngfield, Minnesota to Adolph and Maria (Yrish) Hanish. He was baptized on June 29, 1925 at the Catholic Church in Springfield and later became a member of the Methodist Church in Jeffers. He attended the country school in Germantown through 8th grade. Bill enlisted in the army in 1945 and served until 1946 in World War II.

On December 2, 1947, Bill was united in marriage to Evelyn Knakmuhs at the Methodist parsonage in Walnut Grove. This marriage was blessed with four children, Rodney, Lee, Wayne, and Cindy. After their marriage, Bill worked for Schweitzer's where he baled flax straw and was a hired man for Arnold Wagner . He then went to work for Vern Immer as a hired hand farming for two years and then started farming himself near Jeffers.

Bill was a member of the Methodist Church in Jeffers, Storden American Legion Post #391, VFW in Westbrook, Red Rock Sportsmen Club, and the horseshoe club in Storden. He loved fishing, especially with his best fishing buddy Ben Bradley, farming, and most of all his family.

Bill passed away on Saturday morning, December 6, 2008, at his home in Jeffers.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Evelyn, of Jeffers; three sons, Rodney Hanish and his wife, Darlene, of Rosemount; Lee Hanish of Jeffers; Wayne Hanish of Jeffers; one daughter, Cindy Ryker and her husband, Steve, of Jeffers; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Walter Hanish and his wife, Betty, of Sturgeon Bay, WI; Robert Hanish and his wife, Janyce, of New Bern, NC; one sister, Frieda Eichstadt of Lamberton; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Terry Hanish; one great-grandson, Jackson Harder; one brother, Herman Hanish; and one sister, Martha Carnell.
