He was baptized on June 29, 1925 at the Catholic Church in Springfield and later became a member of the Methodist Church in Jeffers. He attended the country school in Germantown through 8th grade. After their marriage, Bill worked for Schweitzer’s where he baled flax straw and was a hired man for Arnold Wagner . He then went to work for Vern Immer as a hired hand farming for two years and then started farming himself near Jeffers.

Bill was a member of the Methodist Church in Jeffers, Storden American Legion Post #391, VFW in Westbrook, Red Rock Sportsmen Club, and the horseshoe club in Storden. He loved fishing, especially with his best fishing buddy Ben Bradley, farming, and most of all his family.
