Lawrence R Grunig

Lawrence Ralph Grunig was born in Comfrey, MN on March 29, 1923 to Ralph and Anna (Helkenn) Grunig. He grew up in the Comfrey area where he attended school.

During World War II, Lawrence served his country in the U. S. Army as an infantry cook. His tour of duty took him to the Asiatic theater. Following his Honorable Discharge, he returned to his home area.

He was married to Luella Hurt and farmed near Comfrey. To this family 2 sons and 1 daughter were born. Luella and her daughter died in an auto accident.

After having met at Parents without Partners meeting at Bill's ballroom, Lawrence was married to Eulalia Rozofsky in Sioux City, Iowa on March 19, 1971. A few months later, they moved to Windom where Lawrence was employed by the Toro Company for some 20 years. As a veteran, he was active in the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Lawrence and Eulalia enjoyed traveling in their motor home and greatly enjoyed trips to the Bahamas and the Virgin Islands. They also loved to boat with family and especially loved to spend time with their grandchildren.

On Wednesday morning, December 10, 2008, Lawrence died at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne at the age of 85 years.

He is survived by his wife, Eulalia of Windom; son, Gary and Angel Grunig; step-children, Bernice and Tom Osbahr of Allen, NE, Janice and Mike Miller of Omaha, NE, Shirley and Robert Hobbs of Windom, Bill and Mary Rozofsky of Tallahassee, FL, 21 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren; a sister, Gladius Grunig of Windom, brothers, Leonard and Gertrude Grunig of Storden, and Roger and Dorothy Grunig of Comfrey.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his first wife, Luella, a daughter and son, and his brother Eugene.
