Donavan (Don) Peter Kopp
December 12, 1922 - November 3, 2012

WAUNAKEE - Donavan (Don) Peter Kopp, age 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012 at Agrace Hospice.
He was born at home on Dec. 12, 1922, the eldest son of Joseph Sr. and Rose (Meffert) Kopp. He was united in marriage to Catherine M. Ruppert on Nov. 20, 1945 in Dodgeville.
Don was an industrial engineer for 38 years at Oscar Mayer, retiring in 1984. He and Catherine enjoyed several years of traveling before deciding to winter in Florida, which they did for 19 fun filled years.
He was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Waunakee where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Parish Council, served as trustee, usher, lector and Eucharistic minister. He was also involved in the community, serving on the Board, was a volunteer Fire Fighter and was n RSVP driver delivering meals-on-wheels and transporting people to appointments. He played many years on the Waunakee Home Talent Baseball Team as well as playing in the village softball league.
Don enjoyed gardening, especially tending to his roses, golfing, fishing, bowling and playing cards with family and friends. He was an avid sports fan, enjoying the Packers, St Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers, the Badgers, and the Waunakee Warriors. He truly treasured the time he spent with his wife, children, and loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Don is survived by Catherine, his loving wife of almost 67 years; his 5 children, James (Vicki), Jane (Joe) Schneider, Nancy (James) Hellenbrand, Mary (Thomas) Acker, Jerry; his 10 grandchildren, Lisa (Ben), Mike (Lisa), Joel (Jenny), Jay (Marieka), Janelle, Kristin (Chad), Erik (Lindsey), Jason (Jena), Justin (Heather), Jared (Amy) and his 15 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his sisters, Mary, Doris (Clarence) Dahmen, Kathleen (Larry) Thornton and brother, Robert (Shirley); brothers-in-law, John Ruppert and Ernest (Delores) Ruppert. His also survived by his AFS daughter from Brazil, Angela (Lauro) Freitas and her daughters, Any and July; many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Joella and her husband, Carl Endres, his brother, Joseph Jr. and his wives, Marcy and Julie; his sister-in-law, Anna Mae and her husband Gilbert Steffes.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Wednesday, Nov 7, 2012 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church 209 South St. Waunakee. Visitation will be on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012 from 4pm - 7pm at the Winn-Cress Funeral Home in Waunakee, and from 10am at the church until the time of the service.
The family would like to thank Dr. James Nettum, his nurse Christina, the Agrace Hospice Staff especially Sr. Georgeann, St. Mary's 8th floor staff, Creekwood Assisted Living and the Waunakee Manor for their tender care, support and kindness.
"You were a wonderful husband, dad, grandfather, brother and a very good man! We love you and you will be dearly missed Packer Papa!"
