Milton Workman, 96, passed away at home surrounded by family on June 12, 2017, in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Born October 1, 1920 in Chicago Heights, IL to Louis and Henrietta Workman, Milton was raised in the small Dutch farming community of South Holland, IL. He served in the Marines during World War II. Following the war, he attended Colorado A &M College where he met and married the love of his life, Shirlie Huff, and received his BS in Horticulture in 1950. He then earned a PhD from the University of California, Davis. Thereafter he worked 9 years at Purdue University before returning to CSU in 1963, where he was a Professor of Horticulture and Leader of Potato Investigations until his retirement in 1985.
Milton loved the outdoors and shared that love with his family, taking them camping, skiing, backpacking, and swimming. He was an avid cyclist, swimmer, and tennis player and was dedicated to exercise his entire life.

to God for His goodness to the Workman family. He was a devoted husband and father, raising six children, enjoying 15 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. The home he and Shirlie built was a place of hospitality, always open to family and friends. Many of his grandchildren lived there while working or attending school, developing deep bonds with Oma and Opa. Milton and Shirlie also volunteered at their church's Outreach Center for over 20 years, sharing their love and faith with those in need.
Shirlie Workman passed away in 2011. Milton is survived by his six children: Steve (Karen) Workman, Dawn (Jon) Lewis, Kim (Ruth Alexander) Workman, Jonathan (Linda) Workman, Heather Workman-Jell, and Heidi (Jack) Sheahan, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
