The Reverend James Arthur Adix, 79, died at his home in Marion, Iowa, on August 4, 2017. A memorial service will be held on August 19, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point, Iowa. There will be a visitation from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on August 18, 2017, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.

Jim was born on May 1, 1938, in Monticello, Iowa. He was the elder son of Arthur Carl and Clara Louise (Schoon) Adix. He attended public schools in Monticello and Aurora, graduating from Aurora High School in 1956 as their valedictorian. He received the Mid-American Foundation Scholarship, National Merit Scholarship and a full scholarship from the Wartburg Board of Regents graduating from Wartburg College in 1960. He then attended seminary at Capital (now Trinity) in Columbus, Ohio and Wartburg in Dubuque earning a B.D. and S.T.M degrees. He was ordained in 1964 by the American Lutheran Church. r he served the following congregations: First Lutheran, Our Savior and St. Petri, Stephen/Argyle, MN; Salem, Andrew, IA; Grace Lutheran, Eau Claire, WI; Immanuel Lutheran, Independence, IA: St. Mark's Lutheran, Olathe, KS; Our Savior's Lutheran, Cedar Rapids, IA. During these years he also served various interim ministries in Iowa and Kansas. In addition, Jim was a member of the Wartburg Seminary faculty for several years as Professor of Contextual Education and Director of Internship. He was also a licensed administrator for the Evangelical Good Samaritan Society and served multi-level adult care facilities in Hutchinson, KS and Denton, TX. Since retiring in 2007, he continued to serve five different congregations in an interim capacity.

Jim is survived by his wife of 35 years, Marcia (Heggen) Adix; five children, David (Renee Parenteau) Adix, Anne (John) Fabie, Mike Adix, Jackie Wierimaa, and Nicole (Andy) McRoberts; seven grandchildren, Sara (Mike) Cassidy, Michael and Noah Fabie, Matthew and Andrew Adix, and Amelia and Josephine McRoberts; his brother, Richard (Kathy) Adix; and his former wife, Sue Alt.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and two infant grandchildren.

Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Monticello, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, Emanuel Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point or the charity of your choice.
