Donna was born December 12, 1950 at Shenandoah, Iowa to Don and Patsy (Mondt) Ginger. She grew up and graduated from Essex High School in 1969. She married Verlin Schafer on June 3, 1989 at a sunrise service at the Earl May Rose Garden in Shenandoah. They resided in Essex until moving to Louisiana, Missouri, where they lived for four years and she worked as a dental assistant. They then lived in Wahoo for three years, before moving the Gering in 1997, where she was presently employed as the Emmanuel Congregational Church secretary.
She was a member of the church, loved to read, and spoil her grandchildren. Donna will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends as a wife who loved her husband, her children, her grandchildren and her God. She never complained of the hardships she was presented throughout her life, but met them head on. She was an inspiration to all who knew and loved her.
