Selma Konitz

KONITZ, SELMA Selma Konitz died March 14 at the age of 82. By the age of 14, she had faced what no one should experience in a lifetime. Born in 1925 in a city that the Germans renamed Auschwitz during WW11, she was taken from her parents and family and placed into concentration camp. She and her beloved sister survived while their parents and 5 brothers and sisters did not. Liberated in 1945, she faced life with great optimism. She married Louis Konitz in 1946, immigrating to Los Angeles in 1950 with their young son, Jack, and soon thereafter gave birth to Russ. She and her husband made a new life out of the ashes of their early losses and shared a lifetime until his death in 2002.Selma was active in the 1939 Club, an organization comprised of Holocaust survivors and their offspring. Selma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She is survived and will be missed by her son Russ Kavanaugh; her daughter-in-law and son, Leslie and Jack Kavanaugh: grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew, Nicole and Jessica Kavanaugh; sister, Toni Green and nieces, Rosemary Elperin and Ellen Green.In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in her memory to The 1939 Club.[more]
