Goodwin Goldfaden, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, and a longtime resident of Sherman Oaks, California, passed away on January 1, 2012. Goodwin was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Sophie Goldfaden, and by brothers Jack Goldfaden and Louis Goldfaden. Goodwin had a wonderful 97 years of life. Goodwin is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Frieda; stepson Richard Greenberg; stepdaughter Susan Luboviski; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Henry and Michelle Karlinsky; nieces and nephews Susan and Steven Perin, Bruce Goldfaden, and Lynn and Jeffrey Busch, who thought of their Uncle Goodwin as a second father; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous other nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. Goodwin loved his family unconditionally, and he was always there for them.Goodwin was the essence of the self-made man. His passion from a young age was collecting and trading in sports memorabilia. He was considered the creator of the hobby of sports collectibles and was probably the longest active dealer. lywood, was a wonder to visit, filled to capacity with floor-to-ceiling shelves full of every imaginable type of sports collectible. Highlights of his career included being written up in Sports Illustrated and selling tons of material to Notre Dame. Goodwin will be deeply missed. He will live on in our hearts through his kind, caring nature, his sense of humor, and the fascinating stories he told about his life. The family requests contributions be made to the Jewish National Fund to plant trees in Israel in GoodwinÂ's memory. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at noon at Mount Sinai Memorial Parks and Mortuaries- Hollywood Hills (800)600-0076.
