Shafton, Kathryn Â"KayÂ" JaneFebruary 27, 1942 - November 16, 2011Beloved mother to Brian (Jennifer) Shafton and Liz (Jeff) Bias; grandmother to Mitch and Hallie Bias; sister to Joyce (Dan) Jordan and Elaine (Richard) Doran; partner to Herb Hirsh.In 1948 Kay and her family moved from Moline, IL to Beverly Hills, CA, which became her parents' home for six decades. She was predeceased by her mother Miriam N. Liberman and father Herbert H. Liberman, M.D. At Beverly Hills High School, Kay was president of Girl's League, a member of the honorary societies of Adelphians and Alphas, and was voted "Friendliest Girl" of her class. Kay attended the University of Wisconsin, USC, and graduated with a teaching degree from UCLA. While she had a remarkable career as an elementary school teacher and as a fundraiser for educational institutions, and was also actively involved in local Democratic politics, Kay was really known as everyone's best friend and she could instantly light up a room with her extrinsic and intrinsic beauty and exuberance.The most important part of Kay's life was her family.
