Percy Z. Goldstein1920 - 2012Percy Zachary Goldstein, husband, father, friend and community member passed away on January 4, 2012, surrounded by his immediate family. He was 91 years old and died from complications following a fall. Percy was a funny, kind and generous person who could converse easily with anyone Â- and did! He loved life, politics and travel; and had a vivid memory for lyrics, facts and details. Born in Brooklyn, New York on May 10, 1920, he was the youngest in a family of five children. He studied dentistry in an accelerated program at University of Pittsburgh during World War II and was posted in several locations before being assigned to Fort McClellan, Alabama, where he met the love of his life, Phyllis Arlene Shrager, an army occupational therapist. They were married in 1946.Following the War and a brief practice in Harlem, Percy and Phyllis settled in Nyack, New York, where he practiced dentistry until his retirement in 1987. He was beloved by his patients and honed his conversational skills while making them comfortable in his dental chair. America-Israel Cultural Foundation. PercyÂ's great devotion was to Congregation Sons of Israel in Nyack where he served in many capacities including president and chairman of the cemetery committee. In 1988 Percy and Phyllis migrated to Los Angeles, following their daughters west. There they enjoyed an active retirement, studying Yiddish and Torah, attending arts events, rekindling old friendships and meeting new people. Active and full of life until his fall on December 30, Percy will be missed by many but never forgotten. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, his daughters Barbara (John Pastier), Carol (Paul Nevitt) and Mary Ann (Dave Berry), grandchildren Naomi Nevitt, Lucy Pastier, Jacob and Sam Berry, and many friends and relatives.
