Jonas Barber also known as John or Johnny BarberMarch 18, 2009 - Santa Monica, CAOur loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend passed away unexpectedly after a short illness on March 18, 2009 at 4:26pm in Saint John's Hospital in Santa Monica. He was surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Phyllis, his son Larry Barber, daughter Susan Boyer, and five grandchildren.Born in Amsterdam, Holland on February 17th, 1926. Son of Levi and Eva Barber and brother of Greta. He immigrated with his family at the age of 10 to South Africa, escaping the Nazi regime on one of the last boats out of Holland. An absolute survivor he was 1 of the 5000 Dutch Jews that made it out of Amsterdam.Financial hardship forced him to enter the work force at the age of 14 in a diamond cutting factory. This began his love of being a jewler. His hard work, integrity, and good word were instrumental in his business success and brought him a lot of respect amongst his peers.He will be greatly missed by all.
