Elaine Eckard

Elaine Marie (Meyer) Eckard, 55, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 9, 2012 at her home in Cedar Rapids. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 14 at 10:30 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, in Whittemore, with Reverend Michael Botsford officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Whittemore. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Monday, February 13, at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Whittemore, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Elaine was born on March 22, 1956, daughter of Elvin and Eleanor (Kinnetz) Meyer in Whittemore. She attended the Lutheran School in Whittemore through 8th grade. After graduating from Algona High School, she moved to Spencer and worked at Spencer Foods and Social Services. From there she went to Sioux City and received an Associate's Degree in computer programming. She moved to Cedar Rapids in 1989, and she worked for 23 years as a computer programmer, then analyst for Life Investors which became Aegon. f Algona; a sister Ellen (Rod) Meyer, of Whittemore; a sister-in-law Virginia (Mark) Eichner of New York; and five nieces and nephews Melissa Reynoldson, Eric Meyer, Mandy Oetken, Alisha Grimm and Randy Meyer. She was predeceased by her father, Elvin. Elaine was a loving wife, and a devoted friend to many. She loved her home, gardening, vacationing with Steve and her friends, and spending time with her cats. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
