LOU SIMMONS SR. MUSCATINE, Iowa - Lou Mitchell Simmons Sr., 79, of Muscatine, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2012, at Lutheran Homes. Funeral Service will be 1 p.m. on Monday, February 13, 2012, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the V.F.W. Chaplain Vicki Pedersen of Lutheran Homes will officiate the service. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Monday, February 13, 2012, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family in care of Brenda Allison. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and aides at Lutheran Homes and the Iowa Hospice team for all their care and consideration during Lou's final days. Their efforts were a true comfort to the family during their time of need. Lou was born on April 17, 1932, in Gladwin, Louisa County, the son of Cecil and Mildred Hanft Simmons. He served in the US Army for over 20 years, including one combat tour in Korea and two in Vietnam for which he received the Bronze Star and Army Commendation Medals. ice. Lou is the beloved father of three daughters, Kimberly and Sandra Simmons of Bryans Road, Maryland, and Brenda Allison of Muscatine. Lou was also a loving grandfather to Justin Simmons of Glen Burnie, Maryland, and Matthew Allison of Muscatine; and great-grandfather to Addison Simmons of Glen Burnie, Maryland. Lou was the oldest of ten children. He is survived by Barbara Freeman, Jeanine Stork, Cecil Simmons, Susan Parrish, Elizabeth Delavue, Mary Berardi, and Sarah Anderson; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Lou 'Mickey' Simmons Jr.; a granddaughter, Rachel; a brother, Robert; and a sister, Julia.
