Donald S. Charlson, 90, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died on Tuesday morning, February 14, 2012, at the Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa, Iowa. Public graveside services and burial celebrating Donald's life will be held at 11 A.M., Friday, February 17, 2012, from the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa. There is no visitation. A private family viewing will be held. The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is caring for the family. Donald Stephen Charlson was born on September 29, 1921 in Clinton, Iowa, to Swan Charles and Lucetta (Daughenbach) Charlson. He was a 1941 graduate of Clinton High School and was a World War II veteran of the Navy. He married Marian Wosoba on March 21, 1945 in Clinton, Iowa. Upon being honorably discharged and his marriage to Marian, they lived in Clinton for 11 years. He first worked for the Chicago-Northwestern Railroad for 8 years and then 3 years at Alcoa. They then moved to California where he worked as a tool and die maker for 32 years. In 1989, he retired and they returned to Iowa, settling near Marian's family in Maquoketa. h his hands, and was known for his woodworking abilities. He also enjoyed being a machinist and making parts. Donald is survived by his wife, Marian Charlson of Maquoketa, IA; a son, Reese (Linda) Charlson of Galena, MO; 4 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren.
