GERALD T. MERGET     “Jerry” Mr. Jerry Merget of Port Washington, after his valiant battle with cancer, found peace Friday evening, December 18, 2009, at his residence on East James Drive.  He was 75 years old.  Jerry was born in Milwaukee on February 20, 1934, son of Thomas and Gertrude Fuchs Merget.  He was united in marriage with Kathleen Herman on August 1, 1964 at St. John de Nepomuk Catholic Church in Milwaukee. The couple settled in Port Washington in 1968.  Jerry was a tool & die maker, working his entire career at AO Smith.  He retired in 1997 after over 40 years on the job. Mr. Merget was a member of St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church in Port Washington.  Golf was a passion for both Jerry and Kay, and he was very proud of his three holes-in-one.  As a couple they golfed in 47 states before Kay preceded him in death in 2001.  In his younger days Jerry won a state championship in archery.  He enjoyed bowling and playing cards, especially bridge.  Jerry also liked working crossword puzzles and collecting vinyl record albums.  Mr. Merget is survived by his two children: Dani...[more]

Merget of Santa Clara, CA and Debra (Steven) Probelski of Sheboygan Falls.  Jerry is also survived by his sister Marilyn (Don) Meyers of Milwaukee, brother-in-law Klemme (Bettie) Herman of Kennewick, WA, 3 nieces and nephews: Andrea, Lindsey and Douglas, other relatives and many friends. Further surviving Jerry are his two very best friends Pat Kernan and Mary Jane Weiss, both of Port Washington.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 6PM on Tuesday at St. Peters, 1800 N. Wisconsin St., Port Washington.  Father Patrick Wendt will officiate.  Jerry will be laid to rest beside his wife in the parish cemetery.  The family will receive visitors at the CHURCH on Tuesday from 4-6PM. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
